Trade and competition: necessity and perspectives of universal competition rules
Abstract
Competition policy is currently an important element of the legal and institutional system for the global economy. While decades ago anticompetitive practices were primarily a local phenomenon, now many areas of competitive law enforcement are international by their nature.
This article elaborates on the development and use of the provisions on competition in the main documents of the WTO and free trade agreements. The analysis of the content and scope of competition agreements is carried out. The main problems that antitrust authorities are currently facing in different countries in relation to international cooperation on competition, are identified. The prospects and the need for adoption of universal standards and rules of competition in the world trade system are considered.
