The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the USA: A prototype of a renovated WTO?
Abstract
The author considers the course of negotiations between the European Union and the USA on the conclusion of the agreement on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). It is argued that against the backdrop of a considerable economic potential of both parties and an ambitious agenda of the negotiations TTIP may well have substantial effect on the world economy and the configuration of the international trading system. In this connection, the WTO is faced with the task of finding its place in front of the ever-expanding system of regional trade agreements and the related changing nature of negotiations on the elimination of obstacles to trade and investment flows.
