A Constant Market Share Analysis of Russian Goods Exports
Abstract
Competitiveness and commodity-geographical changes in the structure of Russian merchandise exports in 2008–2017 are considered. The effects of competitiveness, commodity and geographical structure are analyzed using the constant market share model (CMS). The assessments of the effects of changes in geographical structure for groups of countries and the effects of changes in the commodity structure, including groups of goods ranked by science intensity, are considered. The results of the CMS model are compared with the objectives of the External Economic Strategy of the Russian Federation up to 2020. Proposals have been put forward to improve trade policy measures in respect of commodity exports.
